As a company who specializes in cleaning out storage units, we often get asked by our clients if Public Storage prorates their rent. The answer to that ultimately depends on your rental agreement, but in most cases Public Storage doesn’t prorate rent unfortunately. Which means that if you move out after even one day after your billing period, they will typically charge you for an entire extra month.
That being said, here are some things you can do to avoid paying for an entire extra month:
1. Call your Public Storage location’s property manager and ask if they can make an exception for you. On Public Storage’s website it says that they may be able to prorate your rent up to the 7th of the month if they are given sufficient advanced notice. In general, the further in advance you can ask them for this exception, the more likely they are to give it to you.
2. This one may sound obvious, but try your best to have everything out of your unit before the 1st of the month. If this sounds difficult for you, we recommend giving us a call as soon as possible to handle the cleanout for you. We can cleanout your unit within 24 hours, and our prices are the lowest in the industry guaranteed. In fact, our prices start at only $99 which in most cases is less than what another month’s rent will cost you at your storage facility.
